Eddie's of Roland Park

Eddie’s of Roland Park, a family owned, full-service gourmet supermarket, has been a mainstay in the Baltimore community for more than 60 years. Eddie’s personal shoppers, classically trained chefs, professional catering coordinators and delivery services along with specific specialty areas including prime cut meats and fish are among the distinctive qualities that set Eddie’s apart from the “big box” retailers and make it the preferred “neighborhood grocer.”

To generate widespread publicity for Eddie’s and its unique offerings, Profiles was selected in 2002 as its communications resource. Since that time, Profiles developed and implemented media relations, community outreach, industry outreach and publicity programs to raise awareness and generate exposure for Eddie’s.

Media Relations
From publicity for its annual Grill Fest and Ice Cream Fest to promotion of “Gourmet to Go” and catering services, Profiles secured news and features stories for Eddies.

Results: Feature stories appeared in Food World, Roland Park News, The Baltimore Sun, Baltimore Examiner, Baltimore magazine, Style Magazine, SmartWoman Magazine, Baltimore Jewish Times, The Baltimore Messenger, Baltimore Business Journal, City Paper, The Daily Record, Baltimore Eats, and The Jeffersonian. Eddie’s was also featured on WEAA-FM, WBAL-AM’s “Beltway Gourmet” and WJFK-AM’s “Mark Viviano Show.” Eddie’s chefs have made appearances on WBFF-TV and WJZ-TV, and have a monthly appearance on WBAL-TV.

Promotions
In 2004, Profiles managed a 60th Anniversary Celebration for Eddie’s of Roland Park to generate public awareness, as well as to thank and recognize employees for their contributions and loyalty. Profiles’ plan included an employee appreciation day, kick-off event and yearlong in-store promotions.

  • The employee appreciation event was held at the AMC movie theater in Towson. Profiles organized and arranged all the details of the event including movie theater rental, acquiring parking passes, producing signage, obtaining raffle items, arranging food delivery, and creating snack bags for each guest.
  • The kick-off event was an opportunity for Eddie’s to thank and show appreciation to their customers. Profiles organized and arranged a weekend celebration that included live music, special tastings by local food vendors, and children’s activities.
  • In-store promotions helped to reinforce the 60th Anniversary Celebration including special offers on items that Eddie’s of Roland Park carried for 60 years, special offers on items for $.60, $6, $.60/lb and $6/lb, and in-store cooking demonstrations.

Results: The employee appreciation event was a success with more than 75% of the employees in attendance. Furthermore, the event boosted moral and instilled pride in employees. The kick-off event was equally successful as hundreds of customers attended, and media coverage was earned from Style Magazine, WBFF-TV, and WMAR-TV.
