Baltimore Magazine

Before many of the city’s most valuable assets — the Orioles, Colts or Ravens; Schaefer, Sarbanes and Mikulski; and the BSO, BMA and Walter’s — there was Baltimore magazine. For over 100 years, the magazine has been telling Baltimore’s story and providing those in the greater Baltimore region with the “Best of Baltimore,” “Top Doctors,” “Best Restaurants,” and a monthly exploration of politics, food, business, lifestyle, and the arts.

Events

Overview

In August each year, Baltimore magazine releases their annual “Best of Baltimore” issue. In celebration of their most widely read and purchased issue, the magazine hosts its Best of Baltimore Party benefiting a local nonprofit. In 2007, the magazine was in need of assistance planning and executing the event.

Solution

Profiles was hired to plan and execute the event. We secured vendors and sponsors, coordinated mailings to winners, met regularly with sponsors and with the beneficiary, and handled the media relations for the event. We coordinated all logistics for the event and were on hand to manage the event.

Results

Over 3,000 people attended the 2007 Best of Baltimore Party and over 40 of Baltimore’s best restaurants participated in the event. Guests and staff of the magazine hailed it the most successful party to date.

Overview

In 2007, the magazine looked for a way to promote the magazine and its talented editors and staff, as well as a way to increase its subscribers and newsstand readership.

Solution

Profiles was hired to work with the magazine on a continuing basis to generate media coverage for each of its monthly issues and for its editorial staff.

Results

News and feature stories about Baltimore magazine as well as interviews with Baltimore magazine editors and contributing writers have run on WBAL-TV, WBFF-TV, WJZ-TV, WMAR-TV, CN8, WBAL-AM, WYPR-FM, WWMX-FM, WHFS-FM, WIYY-FM, WVIE-AM, WMET-AM, WCBM-AM, and WPOC-FM. Print outlets such as The Baltimore Sun, Baltimore Examiner, Baltimore Business Journal, Daily Record, City Paper, Urbanite, Baltimore Messenger, The Advocate of Eldersburg, and b have covered Baltimore magazine. Baltimore magazine has also been mentioned and featured on hundreds of blogs and Internet magazines.
